I wanted to brew something a little darker for the fall and winter. I’m a little burned out on pumpkin ales, and I’m a big wheat beer fan, so I decided to give dunkelweizen a try.
Boston’s Trillium Brewing had to close just before Thanksgiving due to a licensing issue. As of now, they’re still waiting on a decision from the ABCC. If you’re a craft beer fan, please check out their merchandise page and consider buying something to help them out while they’re closed.
In June, Waltham’s Watch City Brewing closed in order to make repairs to its air conditioning system. Sadly, since then they’ve auctioned off all of their equipment, and now its clear the brew pub is closed for good. According to Wicked Local, owner Jocelyn Hughes was forced to shut the doors for good because the brewery owed over $120,000 in meal taxes.
Sandy Neck Summer Ale turned out great, our best homebrew yet! It’s been a big hit with everyone who tried it so far, including folks with very discriminating tastes.
Bottling the summer blond was a success! We filled about 40 bottles, one of which was a bigger one. The final gravity remained 1.010, giving this an ABV of about 5.8%. The color is nice and light, and the smell is quite citrusy. I can’t wait to crack these open this summer.
